SB Nation's popular mid-major college basketball website MidMajorMadness.com recently updated its "Way Too Early Power Rankings" and the UTA Mavericks have moved up to fifth in the nation. #MavCity ranks ahead of Nevada, Middle Tennessee and BYU and behind Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), Rhode Island and Vermont.
Although UTA loses three starters off last year's team that won the regular season Sun Belt Conference title and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals, the returning group is talented. Kevin Hervey, the Sun Belt's player of the year and its male student-athlete of the year, is considered a strong NBA prospect. And, it would be difficult to find a more dynamic point guard among any sized program in the country than Erick Neal.
