UTA director of golf Stuart Deane isn't the only Maverick playing in this week's PGA Championship. Like Deane, former UTA golfer Greg Gregory qualified for one of professional golf's most prestigious tournaments by finishing among the low 20 scorers at the PGA Professional Championship last month in Oregon.
An assistant pro at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson, Gregory shot 1-over 288 at Sunriver Resort in Oregon to finish in a tie for ninth place to earn a spot in the PGA Championship field. Gregory has played in a total of five PGA TOUR events since 1997. He played at UTA from 1992-95.
Gregory is scheduled to go off the first tee for Thursday's first round at 8:10 a.m. (CDT) and is paired with K.T. Kim from the Republic of Korea and James Hahn from Alameda, Calif. The group is scheduled to play its second round Friday at 1:20 p.m. off No. 10.
