The top 8 finishers qualified for next June's PGA Professional Championship at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, Calif. Deane, however, had already qualified for next year's event due to his top-20 finish this year and his participation in the PGA Championship earlier this month.
The top 20 players from the 2018 PGA Professional Championship will compete in the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., scheduled for August 6-12, 2018.
This 36-hole NTPGA Section major championship was the third of the four individual stroke play championships that comprise the Yamaha Golf-Car Company / Lajitas Golf Resort Player of the Year Points Challenge presented by Adventures In Golf.
Former UTA golfer Greg Gregory, who also is qualified for next year's PGA Professional Championship, leads the points challenge over second-place Deane 180.00 to 146.00. Coach Deane has won four of the last five NTPGA Player of the Year Points Challenge competitions.
The Player of the Year Award is presented to the Section Member compiling the most points in these Section events: NTPGA Section Championship, Northern Texas PGA Professional Championship, Eastern Championship and Western Championship. Points are awarded to the top 40 places and ties for each Major Championship.
