Mid-major college basketball blogger Kevin Sweeney (CBB Central) is posting his ranking of the top mid-major players at each position. He started with the point guards and lists UTA senior Erick Neal at #8 on his list. (Editor's Note: We think that is about seven spots too low!)
The list includes: 1. Jaylen Adams (St. Bonaventure); 2. Jonathan Stark (Murray State); 3. Brandon Goodwin (FGCU); 4. Devin Watson (SDSU); 5. Jon Davis (Charlotte); 6. Chris Clemons (Campbell); 7. Thomas Wilder (Western Michigan); 8. Neal; 9. Jordan Johnson (UNLV); and 10. David Nichols (Albany).
Here is what Sweeney had to say about Neal:
#8. Erick Neal (UT Arlington)
Stats: 10.6 ppg, 6.6 apg, 35.6% 3-pt FG%
Honestly, I almost feel bad about putting Neal this low. He's the consummate floor general, an excellent distributor and pass-first point who is also capable of "getting his" when the shot clock runs low. Him and teammate Kevin Hervey (who will crack a list later this week) form one of the most dyamic pairings in mid-major basketball, one that hopes to lift the Mavs to an NCAA Tournament berth in their senior season.
Two of these top 10 will be going head-to-head on Dec. 9 when Florida Gulf Coast visits College Park Center.
The Mavericks are scheduled to open the season Nov. 11 against Loyola Marymount and have 15 home games. Season tickets, student all-sports passes, faculty-staff all-season passes and Blaze's Kids Club memberships are all on sale at UTATickets.com.
