UTA head basketball coach Scott Cross has a new motivational tool in practice to encourage his players to work on their outside shooting. Much like the WWE-style belt that is awarded to the team's "Tough Guy" during boot camp, a new fixture at practices is a bell that Cross has installed as part of a 3-point shooting drill.
"We got the idea of the bell from the Dallas Mavericks," said Cross. "We have a train bell that is part of our shooting drills. When a player makes 20 of 25 3-point shots during one of the drills, he is allowed to run over and ring the bell to inform the rest of the group he hit the goal. It is designed to encourage the guys to work on their shooting."
