ELEVEN UTA STUDENT-ATHLETES NAMED TO SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

ARLINGTON - Texas-Arlington had 11 student-athletes that compete in men's and women's cross country and volleyball named to the Hibernia Bank/Southland Conference Commissioner's 2004 Fall Academic Honor Roll which was released by the league office Tuesday.

The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in the league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. The SLC recognized 400 student-athletes with the honor.

Melissa Marek (volleyball) was the top Maverick performer on the honor roll after earning academic all-SLC and CoSIDA all-district honors in 2004.

Below is a list of UTA student-athletes that received the award.

Women's cross country: Kristina Bird (Sr., Keller, Texas); Courtney Carter (Jr., Dallas, Texas); Jodi Hulett (Fr., Arlington, Texas); Ivorita Taylor (Jr., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica)

Men's cross country: Kevin Opp (Fr., San Antonio, Texas)

Volleyball: Torie Dacus (Fr., Ovilla, Texas); Dani Johnson (Fr., Southlake, Texas); Melissa Marek (Sr., Buckholts, Texas); Ellen Murray (Fr., Arlington, Texas); Morgan Rogers (Fr., Tomball); Caley Smith (Sr., Alvin, Texas)

Student-athletes in sports played during the winter and spring have the opportunity to be named the Academic Honor Roll following the spring semester.
