ARLINGTON, Texas...The University of Texas at Arlington landed 12 student-athletes on the Southland Conference 2003-2004 Fall Academic Honor Roll league officials announced Tuesday. The Southland Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the fall semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. Each Southland institution is responsible for selecting the student-athletes in men's and women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball for the fall honor roll.
Senior Erik Petersson headlined for the Mavericks as he was also named the student-athlete of the year in men's cross country. Other cross country athletes named to the honor roll include Davis Tagi, Lisa Haglund, Kajsa Haglund, Stefan Johansson, and Ivorita Taylor.
Three freshman led the way for Maverick volleyball as Angela Kopecki, Kim Merrill and Ashley Smith each earned a spot on the list. Joining them were upperclassmen Mindy Hubik, Melissa Marek and Caley Smith.
Student-athletes in sports competing during the winter and spring have the opportunity to be named to the SLC Honor Roll following the spring semester.
