We're off and running in the Spring Semester, and so are many of our teams. Men's and women's basketball have hit the stretch run in the Western Athletic Conference and are preparing for the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas. The men's team has already clinched a first-round bye and is on a four-game winning streak. Click here for WAC Tournament tickets.
There's still plenty of time to catch your Mavericks at College Park Center. We love to see our students out at games, especially those who purchased the All Sports Pass. Click here for our schedules: men and women.
Coach Scott Cross and the men's team play their next four games at CPC, starting with UT Pan American on Wednesday at 7 p.m. On Saturday we're trying a special start time of 5 p.m. for our Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters matchup with UC Irvine.
Let us know what you think of the 5 p.m. tipoff. We hope it allows families enough time to meet their Saturday commitments – soccer games and such – and still get out to CPC to catch a great ballgame before dinner.
I want to thank Samantha Morrow for her contributions to the women's basketball program. We wish her nothing but the best in the future.
Basketball is hardly the only sport you can catch this semester. Softball and baseball are in full swing and off to great starts. They've each moved into state-of-the-art indoor facilities that illustrate our commitment to both programs.
Softball went a spectacular 4-1 at the UCF Holiday Inn Select Tournament in Orlando, capped by Sunday's win over SEC program South Carolina. You can definitely see a new winning culture and attitude being built by Kristie Fox, our first-year coach.
The softball program is also having an Alumni Game on March 23. For more information, click here.
The baseball team swept the season-opening series against Louisiana Tech, which gave us a great look at what baseball will be like in the WAC. Coach Darin Thomas and your Mavericks head down to Austin to face Texas on Tuesday night. The next home series starts Friday against Northeastern with a doubleheader Saturday.
And when you come out to Allan Saxe Field and Clay Gould Ballpark, you'll find we've lowered the prices on those concession stand goodies to make your game experience even more enjoyable and affordable. Click for ticket info for softball and baseball.
The men's and women's tennis programs under the direction of Coach Diego Benitez have also picked up their rackets. The women won their first match of the Spring on Sunday against Air Force. The men own a victory over Cameron sandwiched around losses to regional powers Baylor and TCU.
The men's and women's track teams wrapped up their indoor regular seasons Saturday when a small squad of Mavericks competed in the Oklahoma Sooner Invitational. Up next are the WAC Championships from Thursday to Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.
The men's golf team is coming off a tie for eighth-place finish at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. Riley Fleming was out top individual finisher, tying for 12th. The Bayou City Collegiate Championships begin Friday in Houston.
I would also like to thank everyone who came out to our Hall of Honor and First Pitch banquets. Both evenings were special, emotional and a lot of fun. We plan to keep growing these events in the years to come. Make sure they're part of your calendar every year.
Last but not least, I want to personally thank President James Spaniolo on behalf of everyone associated with UT Arlington Athletics for his tireless support during his tenure. I also want also take this opportunity to welcome incoming President Dr. Vistasp Karbhari. This is an exciting time for UT Arlington and we're honored to be a part of this University.
