Sun Belt release

NEW ORLEANS, La. – UT Arlington student-athletes have been active volunteers as evidenced by their third win in the Sun Belt Conference's Monthly Community Service Award.

UTA student-athletes collected over 450 clothing items last month that were donated to Mission Arlington – a service that assists people with their physical and mental health needs. Other community service projects included creating motivational cards that encourage students to stay in school, raising over $650 for two charitable organizations, and collecting over 50 canned food items.

UTA also won the monthly award for this past November and December.

Elsewhere around the Sun Belt, members of the Georgia Southern men's basketball team and head coach Mark Byington spent a morning at Samuel J. Green Charter School while the Eagles were in New Orleans for the Sun Belt Basketball Championship.

The Sun Belt Community Service Initiative is a monthly competition that encourages student-athletes to get involved in their communities.  Point totals are awarded based on a number of factors and the school with the most monthly points is recognized as the winner for that month.  The school with the most monthly wins will be the winner of the overall competition.
