ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington student-athletes were honored Monday afternoon in College Park Center's Hospitality Suite for their academic achievements at the Academic Achievement Luncheon.
"I truly believe that they are student-athletes because we graduate the majority of our kids and they're here for school and athletics," Director of Athletics Jim Baker said. "Seeing this group of kids take the extra step to make good grades shows the dedication that they have."
Senior softball pitcher Callie Collins has continued to excel in the classroom and on the field. Collins received the honor for the fourth time.
"Being a student-athlete is definitely difficult when you have a lot on your plate with travel, practice, weights, games and school, but it's always been a priority and it's great to be honored for the work you do in the classroom," Collins said.
Two types of honors were presented at the luncheon:
Super Scholar Athletes - Criteria: Student athletes who earned a 4.0 grade point average in one of the last two semesters or who maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.6 for two or more semesters and who enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours.
Scholar Athletes - Criteria: Student athletes who earned a 3.8 grade point average in one of the last two semesters or who maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 for two or more semesters and who enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
