Forty-seven student-athletes honored for academic achievement

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington Athletics Department has officially announced its Super Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Director of Athletics Jim Baker honored the 47 individuals Thursday at the Academic Excellence Luncheon.

Twenty-six individuals were named Super Scholar-Athletes of the Year by earning a 4.0 grade-point average in one of the last two semesters or maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.6 for two or more semesters, while being enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Those student-athletes included: Avery Anderson (volleyball), Elin Andersson (women's track), Emil Blomberg (men's track), Colten Boothe (baseball), Adam Boydston (baseball), Hunter Brown (men's golf), Julianne Burch (women's track), Cody Dyvig (baseball), Whitley Ellison (women's track), Juan Farah (men's tennis), Tara Frantz (volleyball), Soren Goritzka (men's tennis), Raquel Kilgore (women's track), Hance Loyd (men's track), Maria Martinez (women's tennis), Kasey Merck (baseball), Derek Miller (baseball), Hannah Nilsson (women's track), Marissa Paz (women's track), Verena Scott (women's tennis), Emily Shearin (volleyball), Adam Srkala (men's tennis), Kallan Thompson (softball), Adam Westbrook (baseball), Stefan Williams (men's tennis) and Courtney Zink (softball).

In addition, 21 Scholar-Athletes of the Year were honored. Those individuals earned a 3.8 grade-point average in one of the last two semesters or maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 for two or more semesters, while being enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Those student-athletes included: Hannah Barnett (softball), Callie Collins (softball), Jacob Critelli (men's track), Shelby Dickson (volleyball), Giada D'ortona (women's tennis), Christine Foote (women's tennis), Michael Guerrero (baseball), Sydney Hampton (women's track), Samantha Little (women's track), Eric Montou (men's track), Lionel Mungwari (men's track), Branko Petrovic (men's track), Aaron Purser (men's track), Alicia Shaffer (volleyball), Travis Sibley (baseball), Liucija Smaizyte (women's tennis), Molly Snyder (women's track), Clayton Vaughn (men's track), Ryan Walker (baseball), Yauheni Yakauleu (men's tennis) and Taylor Zink (softball).

Women's track and baseball led the way with nine honorees apiece, with each sport featuring six Super-Scholars. The other sports with honorees included: men's track (eight), volleyball (five), women's tennis (five), men's tennis (five), softball (five) and men's golf (one).
