SIXTY-SEVEN MAVS LAND ON SLC HONOR ROLL

FRISCO, Texas - Dee Jay Nelson, the career home run leader for the UT Arlington softball program, was named to the CapitalOne/Southland Commissioner's Spring Academic Honor Roll Thursday.

Presented by CapitalOne Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the spring semester and maintained a 3.0 semester grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Nelson led a group of 67 UTA student-athletes to the list. She is an economics major with a 3.46 grade-point-average. Nelson was recently recognized as an Outstanding Leader on Campus by the UT Arlington Student Affairs and Student Activities. She is the B.G. Wilson female scholars-athlete in 2006 and 2007 at UT Arlington.

Nelson was one of 11 softball players named to the list. The women's track and field squad had the most athletes named to the squad with 18. Softball (11), baseball (10), men's track and field (eight), men's golf (six), women's tennis (four), men's basketball (four), women's basketball (three) and men's tennis (three) completed the spring list.

Sam Houston State led all schools with 92 student-athletes on the squad. In all, 686 student-athletes from 12 conference members were named to the list.

Baseball (10): Leo Radkowski, Daniel Rieder, David Masters, Brandon Endsley, Collin Garner, Ryan Martin, Matt Otteman, Danny Slinkman, Kendall Carrillo, David Newby.
