ARLINGTON, Texas –
UT Arlington golf coach Stuart Deane announced the hiring of Catherine Matranga as an associate head coach for the women's golf team on Tuesday. UTA women's golf begins play at the start of the 2017-18 season.

Matranga joins the Mavericks after serving as an assistant for Division II Roger's State. Matranga helped the Hillcats pick up three top-10 performances at the Heartland Conference Championship during the team's provisional season of competing.

"With the start of our women's golf program right around the corner, the job of hiring our women's coach was an important one to help set the standard," Deane said. "We could not be more happy in welcoming Catherine to join the coaching staff. Coach Cat has a great playing and coaching background and it is our fortune as well that she is a local girl from Fort Worth. I believe we now have the best coaching staff in the country on both the men's and women's side and look forward to building championship winning teams."

A Fort Worth native, Matranga graduated from TCU with NCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2007. She recorded 13 top-10 finishes and was named to the Mountain West All-Conference team. After her days as a Horned Frog, she played seven seasons on the LPGA Symetra Tour and participated in the U.S. Women's Open in 2013.

"I am excited about the hiring of coach Matranga to lead our women's golf program," UT Arlington Director of Athletics Jim Baker said. "She fit everything we were looking for in our search. I can't wait until the fall of 2017 when the program starts competing."

Prior to joining Roger's State, Matranga spent four years as the Assistant Golf Professional at Ridglea Country Club.

UT Arlington announced the addition of women's golf on April 13, 2015 as well as the creation of the Nancy Baker Memorial Women's Golf Scholarship later that year to help support recruitment and attraction of women's golfers to UTA.
