More than 250 persons have made their colors Royal Blue and White.

The 2005-06 Maverick Club Team Membership Campaign concluded with a spirited victory luncheon June 23 at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce.

"The drive has been a great success," said UTA Athletics Development Director Joe Biedron. "We reached our goal in terms of fundraising, but more importantly, we reached hundreds of new members who are going to help build UTA Athletics into the dominate program in the Southland Conference. We had a dedicated group of 56 volunteers go out and contact people who wanted to be a part of this program and we couldn't be happier."

"I am not surprised that this group of people were able to achieve success," said UTA President James Spaniolo during the luncheon. "The members of this drive have proven that athletics is an important element in the student-life at UTA. I congratulate them for a job well done."

"We have made a commitment to increasing our Maverick Club in both annual giving and membership," said UTA Athletics Director Pete Carlon. "The Maverick Club is an important component to our department. We want the community to become a part of our program and the Mavericks Club is one way to do that. Each dollar raised is used solely for student-athlete scholarships."

In 2005-06, an estimated $1.5 million will be spent for scholarships within the athletics department.

During the June 23 victory luncheon, each team of volunteers reported their total amount of money raised and new members enrolled. In all, more than $75,000 of new funds were raised with the re-enrollment phase of the Club to begin in August.

Individually, former UTA football standout Danny Griffin, was the top fundraiser for the campaign with more than $13,000 and 33 new members in the campaign. For his efforts, Griffin earned an all-expense paid trip to San Diego, Calif., for the UTA-San Diego men's basketball game in December. Griffin and his team, the "A-Team" were the fund raising team with more than $17,000 raised. For their efforts, the group will attend the Nov. 23 men's basketball game between UTA and Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
