ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington featured 91 student-athletes on the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and Honor Roll released by the league office on Tuesday.
"This just shows how far our program has come when we have 91 student-athletes honored academically," UT Arlington Athletics Director Jim Baker said. "I'm proud of all these kids and our academic staff that helps make this possible with their dedication and all their hard work."
Maverick softball featured the highest percentage of award winners, placing 10 on the Commissioner's list, awarded to student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or above, and five on the Honor Roll, students with a 3.00 to 3.49.
In the team category, six squads featured GPA's above a 3.00 with women's tennis leading the way with a 3.536. The team was recognized for their achievement with a NCAA Public Recognition Award for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport.
Other groups featuring a 3.00 team GPA or above were softball (3.45), men's tennis (3.26), women's cross country (3.25), volleyball (3.06) and women's track and field (3.01).
The 91 athletes receiving academic honors were six better than its previous season and the most UTA has featured on the lists since joining the conference in 2013.
