ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington student-athletes helped out in the Maverick Stempede as a part of Maverick Move-In Day on Tuesday.
Athletes from the men's and women's basketball teams, the men's and women's track and field teams, softball, baseball and volleyball served the UTA student body by helping move their things into dorms.
"The Maverick Stampede is such a great opportunity to not only help out others, but also to get to know our fellow students," softball player Jolene Schaffer said. "During the time we helped, I got to meet a family from New Orleans who came to Texas due to Hurricane Katrina. If it wasn't for the move-in event I would have never met these kind people."
The softball team helped move students into Lipscomb Hall, volleyball at Arlington Hall and the baseball and basketball teams assisted at Vandergriff Hall. Remaining athletes helped out at KC Hall. Overall, 74 student-athletes participated in the event from 8 a.m. to noon.
