ARLINGTON, Tex. - 2011-12 Welcome Back Social Photo Gallery
With the first day of school just days away, the UT Arlington Athletic Department as well as student-athletes took part in the Third Annual Welcome Back Social Tuesday night at the Maverick Activity Center on campus.
Student-athletes as well as members of the athletic department participated in a talent show contest. In the end, baseball won the talent show, taking the title away from track & field.
The event also included guest speakers from the Special Olympics of Texas Lyndon LaPlante and Spencer MacKenzie who are Global Messengers for SOTX (Special Olympics of Texas). Spencer is currently on a personal mission to speak to NCAA Student-Athletes educating them on the R-Word campaign. He has taken on this challenge on behalf of his older sister.
Special Olympic athletes also participated in the talent show. Kaitlin Cykana from the Mansfield Alumni Mustangs sang a song, Joel Kaspereit from Advocates for Special People performed on the drums, keyboard or sang and Tony Trojcak from Smooth Swing Golf/Special Friends performed on the keyboards.
