Jim Baker: From Jim's Desk...

UTA Athletics Director Jim Baker

Aug. 28, 2012

Welcome back. Summer is a time to relax and recharge, and we did some of that around here. But we were also quite busy preparing to make 2012-13 the best year of UT Arlington Athletics yet.

As many of you know, we've begun competition in the Western Athletic Conference. Mavericks volleyball had the privilege of being the first UTA team to suit up as a WAC member and our ladies are off to a solid start. We won two of three games at our UTA Hilton Invitational before enthusiastic crowds at College Park Center. Junior transfer Shelby Dickson made her UTA debut by being named to the All-Tournament team.

Mavericks volleyball is back in action tonight at CPC against our neighbors in Denton, so come out at cheer the Mavs on against North Texas. First serve is at 6 p.m. and you can buy your tickets here. Season ticket info for men's and women's basketball will be available soon, with a number of seating options being offered throughout CPC. Check UTAMavs.com for the latest on tickets.

Also, All Sports Passes for students are available for just $50. The students' All Sports Pass guarantees students a ticket to all UTA sporting events for 2012-13, including men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. That's over 100 events and you also get a free t-shirt. Sounds like a great deal to me. Help us create a true home-court advantage for your Mavs and a fan experience unlike any other.

When it comes to home fields, we're getting closer to announcing a Softball/Baseball Project aimed to give those programs facilities on par with College Park Center. We're committed at UTA to providing top-flight facilities for all of our programs to provide our coaches and student-athletes the tools necessary to succeed as we move into more competitive conferences and play against tougher competition. We're going to need your help. Stay tuned for more details.

I'd also like to announce some exciting things happening on our website. A redesigned UTAMavs.com launches Sept. 25. The site will make it easier to follow the latest news on all of our sports through feature stories, video and photos. A weekly Athletics Show, produced in conjunction with the UTA Communications Department, is on its way.

Starting with volleyball, you can also watch and listen to all UTA home events at College Park Center through our website. UTA Radio is providing for providing play-by-play for volleyball, in addition to home events for women's basketball, softball and baseball.

As for men's basketball, there's some big news coming down the pike in terms of our radio broadcast. We're on the verge of announcing a new contract with significant reach in the Arlington and throughout the Metroplex. Again, stay tuned.

A lot is happening in UT Arlington Athletics. We've been busy,

Jim
