The University of Texas at Arlington Department of Intercollegiate Athletics continues the campus-wide effort to aid those affected by Hurricane Katrina with a bottle water drive Tuesday through Saturday.
The drive will kick off Tuesday will the entire proceeds from the Maverick Club's fall kick-off luncheon being donated towards the drive. The luncheon is at noon at Spring Creek Barbeque, 3608 South Cooper Street. UTA Head Volleyball Coach Diane Seymour will be the featured speaker. The cost is $6 per person.
On Wednesday, a radio remote from Dallas station KTCK (AM 1310). The "Ticket" will be at the University Center mall from 3 to 7 p.m. Members of the UTA Spirit Group will hand out materials and water donations will be accepted.
Persons donating a six-pack of bottled water will be admitted to any Hilton Arlington/UTA Volleyball Invitational match on Friday, Sept. 9, and Saturday, Sept. 10. Student organizations and the community can drop off all water and cash donations to Texas Hall from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Local merchants including: The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of North Texas, Hilton Arlington, TJP Transportation, Arlington Sporting Goods and Enterprise Rent-A-Car have donated goods and services during the campaign. Hilton Arlington has pledged a minimum of 30 cases of water and toiletry items. TJP Transportation has committed 175 cases of water and Coca Cola, who donated $5 million nationally, has agreed to donating 20 cases of water and providing water at a discount price during the drive.
UTA Athletics Student Athlete Advisory Committee has pledged a six-pack per committee member and the entire athletics department has committed 100 percent participation in the drive through cash donations.
Collection boxes in the resident halls and at the Campus Recreation Building will be set up through Saturday for students to contribute.
Other campus organizations, including, the UTA Department of Campus Recreation, UTA Housing Office, UTA Greek Life, Maverick Maniacs, UTA Spirit Squad and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity are contributing in the drive/relief effort to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
