ARLINGTON, Texas -- This was a great week of fellowship and good fun for supporters of the UT Arlington athletics program.

Nearly 500 Mavericks supporters attended two of the year's most popular events - Wednesday night's 2nd annual Nancy's Night celebration and Thursday's annual Maverick Open. In addition to great food, music and golf, the two events raised approximately $100,000 for scholarships and athletic program enhancements.

Nancy's Night, which is named in honor of the late wife of UTA director of athletics Jim Baker and benefits the Nancy Baker Endowed Scholarship, has now raised more than $200,000 for a scholarship earmarked specifically for the UTA women's golf program. This year's recipient, redshirt freshman Allison Wade from Arlington, was announced during the event.

In addition to Wednesday's scholarship announcement, the athletics program also unveiled the opening of the Nancy Baker Clubhouse -- the official home to the UTA men and women's golf programs. The facility provides a dedicated space for coaches and student-athletes of both teams to practice, conduct meetings, study and enjoy social time to bond as a team.

"I am extremely humbled by the support we have received over the last two years in Nancy's name," said Baker. "To see nearly 300 people come out to Nancy's Night this year and for the scholarship endowment to have surpassed $200,000 is incredible. Personally, it means the world to me. Professionally, it is such a strong testament to the support of the program and a direct reflection on the path to our promising future."

Nancy's Night kicked off with music by popular Fort Worth country singer-songwriter Clayton Gardner and featured a 3-song set from UTA women's golfer Allison Wade. The crowd also enjoyed a live auction by Casey Cade from the DIY Network's Texas Flip and Move television show and a bar-b-que dinner provided by The Pigskin Smokers.

On Thursday, a full field of golfers gathered at Texas Star Golf Course for an afternoon of golf and fellowship at the Maverick Open. In addition to the scramble-format tournament, highlights included long drive and closest to the pin contests and a special introduction on the 16th hole by guest announcer John Mocek.
