Sobczak earned the honor after leading the volleyball team to a four-game win over Texas State in the Southland Conference opener for both teams. The Plano, Texas native had a match-high 23 kills, 19 digs and three block assists as the Mavericks won 30-32, 36-34, 30-17, 30-27.
Omana went 3-1 in singles play and, along with doubles partner Gonzalo Bienzabos, advanced to the semifinals in the gold draw at the Baylor 2006 Men's HEB Intercollegiate Tournament on Sunday.
Omana and Bienzabos dropped an 8-5 decision to 29th-ranked David North and Eric Molnar of Georgia Tech Sunday morning in the doubles semifinals.
Omana, a native of Caracus, Venezuela, defeated Taylor Striplin of Alabama, Jorge Delgado of Louisiana-Lafayette and Adam Becker of Texas-San Antonio before losing to Steven Shields of Texas A&M in singles competition.
One male and one female student-athlete is selected for the weekly honor by members of the sports information office from those student-athletes who competed the previous week.
