EULESS, Texas - Supporters, coaches, athletics staff and student-athletes of UT Arlington gathered recently to enjoy a day full of fun, fellowship and golf at the annual Maverick Open at Texas Star Golf Club.
Approximately 150 people attended the tournament with proceeds from the annual event benefiting a special leadership fund that assists with student-athlete success at UT Arlington. Participants in the tournament were paired with a UTA golfer, coach or staff member to help strengthen their connection to the athletics program. Additionally, various sports programs introduced the golfers to their sport with unique, fun contests and activities on the course.
"The Maverick Open provides a great opportunity for UTA fans, supporters and sponsors to have fun, play golf and get to know the coaches and student-athletes on a more personal level," said Kris Wood, UTA's assistant athletic director for development. "This year's tournament, coupled with the highly-successful Nancy's Night event the night before, really showcased how much support the athletics program at UT Arlington."
Next year's event is tentatively scheduled for September 14 at Texas Star Golf Club.
