Arlington, Tex. - The new 2010-11 basketball season is just around the corner and the UT Arlington men's and women's teams will make their first public appearance of the season Friday, October 15 at the annual Mavericks Madness.
This year's event will start at 10:30 p.m. and will be held at the Maverick Activity Center on the UTA Campus. Admission for the event is free.
Both teams will be introduced to the public and will then scrimmage while head coaches Samantha Morrow and Scott Cross address the crowd and talk about their teams. Doug Garner and his Movin' Mavs wheelchair basketball team will also be introduced and play.
The evening will be capped off with a pair of 3-point and slam dunk contest between UTA students and members of both teams.
Students who wish to try to qualify for either contest need to be at the MAC at 8 p.m. to tryout and the lucky winners will perform later in the evening.
There will be free food and t-shirts for UTA all in attendance.
