ARLINGTON, Texas - This week in UT Arlington athletics the Mavericks "Dig Pink" in the annual pink out match to commemorate the National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
In support of the Side-Out Foundation, the Mavericks have designated this Thursday's match against New Mexico State as its pink out match. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and will receive pink leis when arriving to the game.
Tables will be set up around College Park Center for all of UTA's October matches for donations to support the fight against breast cancer.
This year's match has implications in the WAC standings as UTA tries to make it into the conference tournament at the end of the season. UTA currently sits in the final spot to make the tournament at eight, while New Mexico State is second in the conference.
First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday night at College Park Center.
The Mavericks complete its four-game home stand on Saturday facing Denver. UTA is seeking to avenge its 0-3 loss to the Pioneers earlier this season. Denver is currently in sixth place in the WAC and just one game ahead of UTA. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Golf teeing off in Cabo
UTA freshman Riley Fleming is beginning his second-round sitting in fifth place overall at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Fleming shot a plus-1 in his opening around and is followed by senior Cameron Hollek who shot a plus-2 to sit in a tie for 12th place at the event.
The Mavericks trail Ole Miss who were plus-8 overall in the first round. Continuing live-coverage of the tournament can be found at Santa Clara's website.
Basketball opens up practice
Mavericks Madness officially opened up the UTA basketball season as the men's and women's team opened up practice to lead up to the season openers on Nov. 9.
With both team's opening up on the road on opposite sides of the coast and sharing the home opener on Nov. 16, the team's are hitting the ground running.
The men begin its season at Cal State Bakersfield before its highly anticipated home opener against the University of Oklahoma at College Park Center with first tip scheduled for 7 p.m. The women open up with two games on the road; first at George Washington and then at Michigan State on Nov. 9. The women's home opener takes place also on Nov. 16 to begin the day with a 2 p.m. tip time against Oral Roberts.
