John Brush has been promoted to associate sports information director while Logan Lawrence has been named assistant sports information director, it was announced Saturday.

"John has worked hard over the past four years and has earned this promotion," said Bill Petitt, Asst. A.D. for Marketing/Sports Information. "John will begin to handle more of the day-to-day operations within the sports information office. He has been instrumental in our upgrade of publications over the past two years and our increased commitment to our web site.

"We were fortunate to find someone of Logan's experience late in the summer. He has a great work ethic and done a tremendous job of revamping our archives in the short time he has been here. He has Division I experience as was the director of his own department at TWU.

Brush is in his fifth year at UTA. He is the primary media contact for the women's basketball and baseball teams. Before UTA, Brush served a one-year internship in the sports information department at Angelo State from 2000-01.

Brush has worked in the media services department for the Dallas Stars, the department of game entertainment for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League and for the sports information office as an undergraduate at Waynesburg (Pa.) College. He has also worked a color commentator of Maverick women's basketball games.

In May of 2002, Brush served as the media liaison for the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships held at ASU.

The 27-year old McKeesport, Pa., native earned a bachelor's degree in communication, with a sports broadcasting/sports information emphasis, from Waynesburg College in May, 2000.

Lawrence was named the assistant sports information director in September. His duties will include volleyball, men's basketball, men's and women's tennis and the editor of the weekly Maverick Roundup e-mail newsletter.

He spent two seasons as the sports information director at Texas Wesleyan from 2003-05. Lawrence was a media relations assistant at Troy State (Ala.) University from 2001-03 and served an internship for the Brazos Valley Sports Foundation in 2000-01.

He served as the media coordinator for the 2004 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball, volleyball and softball tournaments.

A graduate of Texas A&M University of a bachelor of science in journalism degree in 2001. He received a masters of science in sport and fitness management at Troy State in 2003 and is completing a masters of business administration from TWU.

A native of DeSoto, Lawrence and his wife, Bridget, have one daughter, Allyson (2 months).
