KINESIOLOGY PROFESSOR SELECTED AS TRAINER FOR U.S. BOBSLED TEAM

Dec. 1, 2005

University of Texas at Arlington Kinesiology Assistant Professor Dr. Cindy Trowbridge has been appointed to serve as the athletic trainer for the United States Women's Bobsled team, competing in the World Cup Races scheduled for Dec. 9-18 in Igls, Austria and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.

Dr. Trowbridge, who is also the clinical education coordinator for the kinesiology department's Athletic Training Education Program, will be responsible for the medical care of 10 women and the coaching staff. Her primary responsibilities to the athletes will include injury/illness and medical issue management in coordination with the chief medial officer (based in Lake Placid). She will also act as a liaison between the athletes, coaching staff and chief medical officer. Training will take place in Cesana, Italy, the week prior to the World Cup competition. Cesana is the Olympic site for Bobsled for the Torino Olympic Winter Games in February 2006.

"I am excited about my appointment with the Women's Bobsled team for this four-week journey of training and competition," said Dr. Trowbridge. "I have traveled and worked with several of the team members on previous assignments and feel very comfortable with the coaching staff."

Dr. Trowbridge's involvement with the United States Olympic Committee began in June 2000 at the Colorado Springs Training Center. There, she worked with USA Women's Basketball and Junior Olympic Gymnastics. Her first assignment was in 2001 with the Women's Bobsled team for its World Cup in Park City, Utah. There, she spent two weeks with the team as they competed and took first, second and third in the World Cup. Dr. Trowbridge next served in January 2003 as one of the athletic trainers (covering figure skating and speed skating) sent to provide coverage at the World University Games in Piancavallo, Italy. Her most recent assignment was a training trip to the World Cup site in Koenigsee, Germany, with the Women's Bobsled and Men's/Women's Skeleton.

Dr. Trowbridge will depart from Dallas Nov. 25 and will travel to Munich, Germany, where she will meet up with other members of the team.
