Athletic Training...Staff Information

Louise Fincher, EdD, ATC, LAT
Athletic Training Program Director

Dr. Fincher is now in her fourth year at UTA as the Program Director for the Athletic Training Education Program. Prior to joining the UTA staff, Lou was the President and CEO of the Joe W. King Orthopedic Institute in Houston, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, her Masters of Science in Physical Education from Indiana State University and her Doctor of Education in Human Performance Studies from the University of Alabama. Lou has over 17 years of experience in the athletic training profession including positions at Euless Trinity High School( 1983-87), Alief Hastings High School( 1988-90), Indiana State University( 1990-91), McLean Orthopedics, PA( 1991-92), The University of Alabama( 1992-95) and the Joe W. King Orthopedic Institute( 1995-2000). She has published numerous articles related to athletic training and given over 20 national, regional, or district presentations. She is also very active in the athletic training profession through a variety of service work involving the National Athletic Trainers Association( NATA), the NATA Foundation, the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association, and the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers.

Terry Lehmann, MS, ATC, LAT
Head Athletic Trainer

Terry begins his first season as the head athletic trainer at the University of Texas at Arlington. Lehmann earned a Bachelors of Science, Physical Education and Exercise Science with an Emphasis in Athletic Training at Michigan State University in 1997. He received his Masters of Science in Physical Education from Texas Tech University in 2000. He comes to UTA from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he served as associate athletics trainer and instructor. Lehmann's primarly responsibility was the football program while serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Wayne State University from 2001-02, an athletic trainer intern with the Miami Dolphins Football Organization (1999-2000) and a graduate assistant at Texas Tech from 1997-99. At Tech, he was responsible for the women's softball and volleyball programs and was the head football graduate assistant athletic trainer for one season. As a student athletic trainer at Michigan State, he worked with the Spartan football team, men's tennis, track and field and women's soccer. In addition, he has work experience at the Convenant Medical Center(2000-01). He is a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Jennifer Markiewicz, MA, ATC, LAT
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Jennifer will begin her third year as Assistant Athletic Trainer this fall. Jennifer obtained a BS in Athletic Training in 2000 from Indiana State University. She continued her education at Western Michigan an earned a MA in Physical Education with an Athletic Training emphasis in 2002. As a graduate assistant at Western Michigan she provided medical services for the football team. She was also active in the education of the athletic training students, organization of the athletic training room, and other administrative tasks. Jennifer is responisble for covering the UTA Lady Maverick Basketball team.

Jonathan Hancock, ATC, LAT, CSCS
Assistant Athletic Trainer

UTA alum Jonathan Hancock will begin his third year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. Jonathan graduated with a BA in Exercise, Sport, and Health Studies in 1998. He is currently completing his MS in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Jonathan served as the graduate assistant athletic trainer at Slippery Rock University from 1998 - 2000. In the summer of 2000, he worked with the AA Reading Phillies Professional Baseball Team as a strength and conditioning coach. At the completion of the baseball season, Jonathan returned to Texas to work as an athletic trainer for the Fort Worth Brahmas Professional Ice Hockey Team. Before returning to the UTA Athletic Training staff, he worked for Baylor Sports Care in Dallas as a contract athletic trainer.

Gina Giammanco, MS, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Gina is beginning her first semester at UTA, and will be covering the softball team. Gina received her BS in Physical Education from the University of Louisiana - Monroe in 2003, and she received her MS in Exercise Science in 2004. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer, Gina worked with women's volleyball, men's and women's swimming and diving, football, softball, and baseball. Some of the other events Gina has covered include the SunBelt Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, NCAA Diving Zone Championships, AAU Girls National Basketball tournament, and the Louisiana High School State Rodeo Championships.
