WALNUT, Calif. - Sophomore Emil Blomberg's second-place finish in the steeplechase was the top performance by the Mavericks on Saturday at the Beach Invitational, as UT Arlington continued its preparation for the Western Athletic Conference Championships in early May.
Blomberg completed the 3000-meter event with a time of 8:54.75, a figure that ranks among the nation's top 30 this season. It was a personal-best clocking for the sophomore and the second-fastest time in school history. Teammate Aaron Purser (9:18.19) took 11th in the event.
In the high jump, Roland Sales finished fifth with a mark of 6-09 (2.06m). That clearance matched his best performance of the season. Omar Barnes also had a high field-event finish, as his season-best triple jump mark of 14.68m (48-02.00) placed sixth.
In addition, in the 100m hurdles, Porschea Wilson came in 15th with a time of 14.40.
The Mavericks also wrapped up their participation in the Mt. SAC Relays, as the 4x100 relay team finished fifth. The quartet of LaDoreal Thompson, Keondra Mallard, DeAndrea Smith and Shannon Reynolds had a time of 46.33.
