WICHITA, Kan. (Apr. 27, 2013) - A pair of Mavericks picked up individual wins as UT Arlington closed its regular season Saturday at the Track-It Buster Invitational. UTA will next host the Western Athletic Conference Championship May 8-11.
Ashly Wright highlighted the day by setting a meet record in the 800 meters (2:07.33). It was the third-fastest time in school history and the fastest mark in the WAC this season.
On the men's side, Heath Skelton picked up his first career victory with a throw of 155-02 (47.29m) in the discus.
UTA also had a number of solid runner-up finishes. DeOna Stafford finished second in the 100m hurdles in 14.11. She had a time of 13.97 in the prelims, making her one of just five Mavs ever to break the 14-second mark.
For the men, Roland Sales was the runner up in the high jump (6-08.00, 2.03m), while Anthony Hilliman was second in the 800 meters (1:53.87). The Mavericks also posted a 2-3-4 finish in the men's 1500 meters. Emil Blomberg took second in 3:57.44 to outpace Ryan Tilotta (3:58.02) and Craig Lautenslager (4:01.13).
UTA also had a trio of bronze-medal finishes in field events. Samantha Little placed third in the discus (148-11),while Morgan Domingue placed third in 18-07.00 (5.66m). On the men's team, Lionel Mungwari placed third in the 100 meters (10.90).
