ARLINGTON, Texas - The 2013 UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams will begin their seasons Saturday afternoon in College Station at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational.
The Mavericks men's team is ranked 26th nationally in the preseason poll, and its cross country squad is coming off a Western Athletic Conference championship this fall. UTA boasts three reigning All-Americans--senior Romain Martin (heptathlon), junior Clayton Vaughn (60m) and junior Bozidar Antunovic(shot put).
"In addition to having a lot of talented individuals, we really are getting some great leadership from our upperclassmen," head coach John Sauerhagesaid. "We're excited to get the season underway this weekend, and we are looking forward to seeing some strong performances against some very good competition."
All 12 teams participating in the meet hail from the Lone Star State. In addition to UTA and host Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Texas State and UTSA will be competing.
The meet will feature team scoring on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for all events with only three athletes per school eligible to score. Live results will be available on www.flashresults.com, while a live web stream of the meet is available through www.aggieathletics.com.
Running finals will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday while field events and running prelims in the 60 hurdles and 60 meters begin at noon.
