ARLINGTON, Texas -- UT Arlington's Clayton Vaughn and Bozidar Antunovic have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 7-13 the league office announced Wednesday.
Vaughn, a junior from Sulphur Springs, Texas placed second in the 60m at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational. He finished .06 off his school-record clocking, recording a time of 6.67. His time was not only a season best for the WAC, but placed him in a tie for the fifth fastest time in the nation.
Antunovic, a junior from Indjija, won the shot put at the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitation-al with a school-record throw of 64-4.5 (19.62m). His distance broke the previous UTA standard (60-1) that had stood for 27 years by more than four feet. The transfer from the University of Arizona won the event by more than four feet and set an indoor per-sonal best by over two feet. His throw is the second-best mark in the nation.
The Mavericks return to action Saturday at the J.D. Martin Invitational in Norman, Okla.
