ARLINGTON, Texas - With the Western Athletic Conference Championships just four weeks away, the UT Arlington men's and women's indoor track and field teams embark on an important meet this week in Ames, Iowa.
The Mavericks will take part in the Bill Bergan Invitational, which consists of a multi-event competition Thursday and Friday, as well as single events on Saturday. The multi-event will allow returning All-American Romain Martin a chance to compete in the heptathlon for the first time this season.
Iowa State's Leid Recreation-Athletic Facility, which features a 300-meter track, is one of the finest indoor facilities in the nation.
"This meet will provide a lot of quality opportunities for our athletes, starting with Romain," head coach John Sauerhage said. "And our runners, especially our 200m runners, will have a lot of confidence competing on this track because of its size."
In addition to UT Arlington, other teams competing in the meet include: Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota (men), Marquette, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Wisconsin.
The men's heptathlon will kick off the meet Thursday at 1 p.m. and will finish up on Friday. On Saturday, men's and women's field events begin at 9:30 a.m., while running events commence at noon. Live results will be available on www.cyclones.com during the meet.
