T&F: Martin first after day one at Bill Bergan

AMES, Iowa - UT Arlington's Romain Martin holds the lead in the heptathlon after the first day of competition at the Bill Bergan Invitational Multi-Event. Martin has 3,151 points to open up an 80-point lead on his closest competitor. The senior placed first in two of the four events on Thursday. Martin posted the best 60-meter dash time (7.15) and also won the shot put (14.54m). He was the runner up in the long jump with a mark of 6.76 meters and tied for fourth in the high jump at 2 meters. Kansas State's Devin Dick (3,071) and Tomas Kirielius (2,966) and Iowa State's Ethan Wilkins (2,965) are in pursuit of Martin. The competition will conclude Friday with the final three events--60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m. The 60m hurdles kicks off day two at 2 p.m. (CT). --www.UTAMavs.com--
