ARLINGTON, Texas - For the third time in as many weeks during the indoor track season, the Western Athletic Conference's men's field athlete of the week hails from UT Arlington. This week's winner is senior Romain Martin, who won the heptathlon at Iowa State's Bill Bergan Multi-Event.
Martin, a native of Le Mans, France (EGC), totaled 5,756 points to finish more than 300 points better than the event's runner up. His 5,756 points are the third most scored by an NCAA participant this season, and his score is the best in the WAC by more than 800 points.
Martin won four of the seven events last week: the 60m (7.15), shot put (14.54m), 60m hurdles (8.18) and pole vault (4.80m), competing against individuals from Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas State, Marquette, Minnesota, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Wisconsin.
Previous field winners for the Mavericks were Bozidar Antunovic (Jan. 16) and Brandon Waller (Jan. 23). In addition, Clayton Vaughn was named track athlete of the week on Jan. 16, giving the Mavs four of the six honorees thus far this season.
