LUBBOCK, Texas - UTA put a cap on the 2018 indoor track and field season with more strong performances Saturday at the Texas Tech Shootout. The Mavericks are now just over a week away from the Sun Belt Conference Championships.

"Overall, we leave Lubbock feeling good about conference," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "We've been putting in a lot of hard work and we are looking forward to putting it all on the line in Birmingham."

Erik Martinsson was the event champion in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.11, winning by .24. His time is the best in the Sun Belt this year and the third-fastest in school history. In addition, his time will be converted to a 1:48.80 and will rank among the nation's top 25 this season.

Also on the men's side, Justin Domangue was the top collegiate finisher, and took second overall, in the mile with a time of 4:18.45.

After season-best runs on Saturday, Demarviae Gray (21.41) and David Seastrunk (21.47) now stand fifth and sixth in the Sun Belt Conference in the men's 200 meters. Ironically, they finished in those same positions at the meet.

For the women, Madeleine Rowe had an impressive fourth-place showing in the 3000 meters. Her time of 10:05.40 is the No. 3 clocking in the SBC in 2018.

In addition, Erica Cormier-Jordan's 200m time of 24.86 is the sixth-best time in the league this year. In the field, Madison Pecot was third in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-6 ¼ (3.82m).

In other action, a pair of men's distance runners, Michael Guerrero and Joel Duren, competed at the UW Husky Classic. Guerrero ran a 5000m time of 14:26.44, the best mark in the SBC this year by more than 30 seconds. His personal record ranks as the third-fastest time in school history.

Duren posted a mile time of 4:10.22 in Seattle. That took over the top spot on the SBC list this year and also netted Duren the fifth-fastest time in school history. He bumped his coach, Sauerhage, out of the fifth spot by .04.

The SBC Indoor Championships will be Feb. 19-20 in Birmingham, Ala. The Mavericks won the 2017 men's title, while the women had a runner-up showing.
