ARLINGTON, Texas -- UTA freshman Helen Falda has been honored as the Sun Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. She is the first Maverick to be honored during the indoor season.
On Friday at the Dunamis College Classic II, Falda broke the school record in the pole vault for the third time in her four career meets. She took first place in the event by setting a new personal best with a clearance of 13 feet, 9 ¼ inches (4.20m).
Falda owns the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference this season by nearly eight inches. In addition, her clearance ranks tied for 15th on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List.
Earlier this year, Falda became the first female in UTA history to top 13 feet. In her four meets this season, she has two victories, a runner-up showing and a third-place finish.
Falda and her UTA teammates will return to action Monday and Tuesday at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
