ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Strong performances from UT Arlington's men's and women's multi-event specialists took place on day one of the Western Athletic Conference Championships. Freshman Danielle Delage scored the first five points of the championships for the Mavericks by virtue of her fourth place finish in the pentathlon.
Delage's afternoon was highlighted by a victory in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 5-07. She also had top-5 finishes in the shot put (35-08) and the 800-meter run (2:25.67). In all, she scored 3,658 points.
The men also fared well on day one, as All-American Romain Martin and teammate Brandon Blanchard sit in first and second place, respectively, past the halfway point of the heptathlon. He placed first in all four contests, the 60-meter dash (7.08), long jump (23-00), shot put (46-10.25) and high jump (6-07).
Blanchard tallied 2,842 points, placing second in the 60m and third in both the long jump and high jump. In addition, John Frnka sits in seventh place with 2,685 points. He was second in the long jump. Each of the top eight positions score points.
