ARLINGTON, Texas -- Add another trophy to the 2012 UT Arlington men's cross country team's mantle. In addition to winning the Western Athletic Conference championship and numerous individual honors in the fall, the squad has now been named a Division I Cross Country All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
"This is a very nice and well-deserved honor for our guys," head coach John Sauerhagesaid. "Our team put in a lot of hard work in the classroom and this recognition illustrates that this group of men succeeded not only athletically, but academically as well."
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the squad must have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better and have started at least five runners at its respective NCAA regional championship.
The Mavericks posted a cumulative GPA average of 3.4 through the fall semester. UTA was one of four WAC schools on the list, along with Idaho, New Mexico State and Seattle.
