The UT Arlington track and field teams will embark on the 2015 outdoor season this week when the Mavericks make the short trek to Fort Worth for the TCU Invitational.

"We are definitely eager to get the outdoor season underway," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "Our teams are hungry and we have a lot of very strong performances from the indoor season to build upon. This week marks the beginning of a very long journey."

The Mavericks, which finished second (men) and fourth (women) in the Sun Belt Conference in the indoor season, appear poised to enjoy impressive spring showings.

The men's team features a return to collegiate competition for Clayton Vaughn, who will be competing in his final season for the Mavs. In 2014, Vaughn earned first-team outdoor All-America honors in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, and also anchored the 4x100 relay team that claimed second-team All-America accolades.

Vaughn, who completed his indoor eligibility in 2014, has enjoyed an impressive past few months competing unattached. On March 1, the senior finished third in the 60 meters at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships (6.594). That performance came six weeks after he ran a 6.54, the world's 14th-fastest time this year.

The women also feature a top-notch runner looking to close out her stellar career on a high note. Ashly Wright reached the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters in 2013, and participated in the NCAA West Preliminary Round a year ago.

The senior is in search of her first individual conference title and also is eyeing a place atop the school's record books in the 800m. Her fastest time (2:06.04) is just .25 off the all-time mark set 15 years ago.

Thursday's competition schedule at the TCU Invitational includes the discus and hammer throws for the men and women beginning at noon.

The remainder of the action will take place Friday at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex on the TCU campus. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m., while running events start at 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Live results will be available on gofrogs.com, and Flotrack will have live and archived video of all races at flotrack.org.
