ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to begin the 2014 outdoor season this week with athletes competing at two meets in the state of Texas.
The Maverick men will be looking to cap the 2013-14 season with its third Sun Belt Conference championship. The squad has already won the cross country and indoor titles. The women placed sixth in the indoor season after a runner-up showing in cross country.
The vast majority of the squads will be in Fort Worth at the TCU Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
Thursday’s events include only the men’s and women’s discus and men’s and women’s hammer throw. Action begins at noon at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex.
Friday kicks off with field events at 9:30 a.m., while running events begin at 1 p.m. and are expected to run until approximately 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. For those unable to attend, live scoring will be available at www.gofrogs.com.
In addition, four Mavericks will be competing at the Rice-Shirley Crowe Combined Classic in Houston. On the women’s side, Charra Elliott and Shae Johnson will participate in the heptathlon, while Brandon Blanchard and John Frnka are contestants in the men’s decathlon.
