ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington distance runner Ryan Tilotta has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
The junior from Tomball, Texas, set a school record in the 5000 meters (14:28.05) as he snagged a runner-up finish at the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays last Thursday. The previous school standard of 14:31.98, set by Erik Petersson, had stood for 13 years.
Tilotta’s time currently ranks 38th nationally, and is the ninth-best time in the West Region. In addition, his clocking is the top 5000m time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
It is the first outdoor honor of the year for the UTA track and field team.
