ARLINGTON, Texas - Romain Martin, a senior from Le Mans, France (EGC), was named the Western Athletic Conference's male field athlete of the week today for his standout performance at the 86th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Martin earned runner-up honors in the decathlon at the prestigious event for the second straight year. He totaled 7,904 points, the second-highest point total in the nation this season. His score was just 73 points shy of his school record and is nearly 1,200 points higher than the next closest WAC competitor this year.
He won two events during the decathlon, taking the high jump by clearing 2.05m (6-08.75) and clocking a time of 14.37 in the 110m hurdles. The senior recorded four top-five WAC marks in individual events while competing in the decathlon. He ranks second in the 110m hurdles, high jump and javelin and is fifth in the WAC in the pole vault.
Martin previously earned WAC Indoor field athlete of the week honors on Jan. 30.
