COMMERCE, Texas - UT Arlington took just a half-dozen athletes to the East Texas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce, but all six came back with first-place finishes at the Saturday meet.
The men brought three field athletes to the meet. Brandon Waller nabbed the second-best long jump mark in the WAC this season by leaping 24-05.75 (7.46m) to win the competition.
In addition, Branko Petrovic registered a winning throw of 54-01.75 (16.50m) in the shot put, the best effort by a UTA athlete this season. He also finished fifth in the discus (43.49m). Bozidar Antunovic was victorious in the discus at 168-02 (51.25m), also while posting a UTA season best.
UTA traveled with three distance runners on the women's side. Gabriela Alfonzo won the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:35.80. Elin Andersson claimed the title in the 800m (2:21.18), while Johanna Nissen Karlsson posted a winning time of 12:52.18 in 3000m steeplechase.
