T&F: Women lead way on day one in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – The UTA women’s track and field team had a strong opening day at the Texas Invitational on Friday, scoring 33 points to sit in third place among 12 teams through eight scored events.

Three Maverick women finished as runner up in their respective disciplines, with two second-place showings coming in field events and one on the track. In the javelin,

Rhiley Fritz was the runner up with a mark of 147-6 (44.96m). In addition, Madison Pecot placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-5 ½ (3.80m).

Madeleine Rowe led the way on the track, as she took the silver medal in the women’s 1500 meters with a season-best clocking of 4:40.87.

UTA placed two among the top five in the women’s long jump. Juleen Lewis nabbed fourth place with a mark of 19-3 1/4 (5.87m), while Imunique Billingsley was fifth at 19-0 ½.

In the shot put, Chloe Lewis scored two points with a heave of 45-4 ¼ (13.82m) that earned her a seventh-place finish.



Back on the track, Astrid Rosvall took sixth in the invitational section of the women’s 800 meters. She crossed in a time of 2:11.45, which is the fourth-fastest time in the SBC this season.

The remainder of the meet will be contested on Saturday. The first running event will commence at 10 a.m., while field events kick off 30 minutes later. Live scoring of the meet will be available here.
