Hampton had the fourth-fastest clocking in school history (4:29.96) in the race. Nilsson's time of 4:31.48 ranks as the fifth best in school annals.
On the men's side, Anthony Hilliman narrowly missed a top-5 time in the same event. His mark of 3:53.99 was less than 2/10ths of a second off the fifth-best time in school history.
Katelyn Hayward rounded out the day for the Mavs, as she placed 11th in her section of the 3000m steeplechase. She posted a time of 10:48.03 in the event.
The Mavericks have two more days of competition at the prestigious meet and also will begin competing in the Beach Invitational on Friday.
