ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s and women’s track and field teams will take part in another high-profile meet this weekend when the squads travel to Waco for the Michael Johnson Dr Pepper Classic. In addition, the Mavericks sent a small number of distance runners to the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., this weekend.
“This is another big weekend for us,” UTA coach John Sauerhage said. “Both events feature top-rated fields and give us chances to compete against the best and see how we stack up."
The Michael Johnson Classic will mark the second of the outdoor season for Clayton Vaughn, who set a school record in the 100 meters last week (10.07). The 100m field is expected to be very strong. Baylor’s Trayvon Bromell, who has the fastest time in the nation this year (10.01), is in the field along with a number of professional runners, including former Maverick star Cordero Gray.
Schools participating alongside UTA include: Baylor, TCU, Texas, Tulsa, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Angelo State, George Mason and SMU (women).
Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m., while running events start at 1 p.m. at the Hart-Patterson Track Complex at Baylor University. Admission is $5 and all tickets are general admission.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Mavericks will be participating in the 5000m, 10000m and 3000m steeplechase.
