ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington junior distance runner Emil Blomberg has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
Blomberg posted a time of 8:53.86 in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays to place 10th in the meet’s prestigious invitational elite race. It ranks as the fastest time in the Sun Belt this year by more than 26 seconds and is less than two seconds off his all-time school record. His clocking currently ranks 30th in the NCAA, including 15th in the West Region.
During the indoor season, Blomberg was named the SBC Men’s Most Outstanding Track Athlete and also grabbed High Point Scorer honors at the league championships after winning two events (mile and 3000m) and finishing as runner up in the 5000m.
The native of Jarfalla, Sweden, is the second straight Maverick to be honored by the SBC, joining Clayton Vaughn (Apr. 16).
