ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men’s and women’s track teams will get a sneak peek at the site of the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Championships this weekend when the Mavericks take part in the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas.
“This will be a nice opportunity for our athletes to get a feel for their surroundings for the upcoming conference championships,” UTA coach John Sauerhage said. “And it also will serve as a key week in preparation for us as we inch closer to May 9.”
The Mavericks currently have 17 men ranked among the top 5 in the Sun Belt Conference in their respective events. On the women’s side, 12 athletes are listed in the league's top 5.
The Bobcat Classic, which takes place at the Texas State University Track and Field Stadium, will feature the men’s and women’s discus beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday. Saturday’s field events will commence at 9 a.m., while running events are slated to start at 2 p.m.
In addition to UTA, the other schools with athletes competing will be SBC foes Texas State and ULM, as well as Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech, Incarnate Word and Southern New Orleans.
