ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington men's and women's track and field teams will complete their regular seasons Saturday at the Bobcat Classic in San Marcos, Texas. It is the final tune-up for the Mavericks prior to the Sun Belt Conference Championships in two weeks.
"We talk all year about everything we do being a stepping stone toward the conference championship," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "Well, we are at that final step, and now are looking to get ourselves in a good place both mentally and physically for the league meet."
A strong contingent of Mavericks will make the trip south, while a handful of student-athletes will take the week off from competition. UTA currently features eight individuals who lead the Sun Belt in their respective events.
On the men's side, Christian Schiemann is atop the Sun Belt in the decathlon (7,058), while Roland Sales in the high jump (7 feet, 1/2 inch) and Tobi Fawehinmi in the triple jump (50 feet, 7 1/4 inches) also possess the best marks in the league.
A trio of Mavs pace the league in running events with Quentin Butler in the 100 meters (10.17), Michael Guerrero in the 10,000m (30:24.31) and Emil Blomberg in the 3000m steeplechase (8:36.98).
Saturday's first event, the women's 5000 meters, will commence at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the men's 5000m. The remainder of the track events will begin at 3 p.m. and run for approximately four hours. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. and run continuously.
Live results will be available on www.txstatebobcats.com.
