ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington track and field teams will participate in their final tune-up prior to the Western Athletic Conference Championships this weekend, when the squads travel to the Track-It Buster Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
Both Maverick teams will feature a large number of athletes at the meet, giving the coaching staff one last look at individuals who are trying to secure one of the coveted spots on the roster for the WAC meet. Just 28 men and 28 women from each school are eligible to compete in the league meet.
"This is a very exciting time for our programs," head coach John Sauerhage said. "The conference meet is what we prepare all season for, and it is just around the corner now. We are looking to post some good marks this weekend and most importantly, we want to stay healthy."
The bulk of the action will be on Saturday, as only the steeplechase and 5000 meters will take place on Friday evening. UTA is not scheduled to have any competitors on day one. On Saturday, the field events kick off action at 11:30 a.m., while running events begin at 5 p.m.
Live scoring of the event will be available at www.goshockers.com.
UTA will then take the following weekend off prior to hosting the WAC Championships May 8-11 at Maverick Stadium.
